Its the MX5 1.8i Gleneagles. After a radiator hose split on the motorway one evening (which I didn't spot and this model is devoid of instrument or dash lighting) the engine heat basically maxed out whilst I limped into the services. The AA repaired the radiator hose and all seemed fine at the time. Recently I get white smoke from the exhaust with some moisture. Also, the radiator fluid seems to be getting some serious pressure, overflowing into the expansion tank and not getting back into the radiator for some reason. Everytime I turn off the engine I can hear the water bubbling into the overflow tank. This morning hot steam was rushing from the overflow tube which comes up and out of the expansion tank. So since the hose repair I have had to fill the radiator twice. Is the advice I am getting correct - that the head gasket is damaged after the engine oevrheating has made it warp? If so, looking here http://shouldpay.co.uk/Repair-Guide-Prices.html gives me a price of £284.11. Is this correct? Also considering that it will have to be skimmed.
