mazda mx3 turns over, wont start?

i have a 1992 mazda mx3, 1.8L v6 GS, we ve replaced the gs pump, distributor, and spark plugs as well as a few other things but now the car stalled in reverse with the engine light on and then wont start up again. the engine light comes on and the car turns over it just wont start completely. any ideas as to whats wrong?
