Mazda Miata????????????

It really depends on how much that you "love" the car. All cars will break down eventually, it is a fact. Whether yours will is simply guesswork, depending on how well it was taken care of by previous owner(s). Sometimes waterpumps and belts will go out in that mileage range. You should see if these have been replaced already. A new water pump will be several hundred dollars, and the "timing" belt, if it has one will cost some money too, but that it normal. I do not know if mazda parts are expensive, but I would not think so because they have been around for a long time. I will caution you on the price. $2500 sounds a little high to me. Go the the Kelley Blue Book website and find out how much it is really worth on the market by typing in the car information and mileage. Definately do this before considering buying. When you know the market price, you will be in a much better position to negotiate with the seller. You can even print out the estimate from the Blue book site to bring with you. Yes, Hondas and Toyotas are known for their reliability and high mileage, but the mazda can last too if you take care of it. Anyway, good luck to you.

I LOVE these cars, and I FINALLY found one in my price range (2500) it's a 1990, and has 167k miles on it. I want it. ONLY I have two semi mechanics in my family, and they all say "honda or toyota" well I think I should be able to pick what kind of car I want with my own money (after all I am 21!) my only consern is
1. is it going to need a new engine soon, is it going to break down since it is old?
2. Are Mazda's expensive to fix?
I want a car that I actually want to drive in, my last car my mother picked out for me 'caz it was a friends. it ended up falling apart and looked like crap!!! not to mention I had to pay for it.
I don;t like being bossed around because I am 21, and need a car.
