My 1.6L 1989 MX-5 (miata) has a noise coming from the engine bay.
The loudest noise happens at 3800-3900 RPM. It doesnt matter if the car is in neutral or any other gear, its always the same rpm.
The sound is quite loud and can be heard while driving. The sound is like a metal on metal drilling sound (which is worrying).
Its almost like a rattling, or a ball bearing spinning round a tin can.
It has been doing it since I got the car 6months ago but passed its MOT.
It is defiantly coming from the engine bay but i cant determine where exactly.
Engine oil is new and correct.
I'm taking it to a garage to be looked at next Friday, but I am comfortable doing some work by my self if someone can point me in the right direction.
I have changed a gear box (transmission) with the help of a book but thats the most complex thing I have done.
Thank you.
