i ran across this about 3 years ago on the same car you got, they gave you a newer model transmission, but the axles are different on them,i had to take mine back out and have the old one re-built,this was a customer car i was working on,but they wasn't happy with the idea of having the old on re-done ,i don't know what the deal is with those, one guy told me at a salvage yard that standard shift axles would fit it but i didn't try it,you might try that before you give up on it,i hope you find some to fit it,i wound up changing transmissions, back to their old one after it was re-built,good luck with it.

I too am one of the millions of suckers with a 626 with a busted tranny. New tranny doesn't fit on old car - the tranny you were sold was more than likely built by Ford, not by Mazda. You need to have your old one rebuilt to have the right fit without the purchase of additional parts. It'll cost you around the same as a new tranny, but without all the hassle.
