Lifters which were originally installed were solid ones and they were giving ticking sound when accelerating, I replaced them with hydraulic lifters, took from 1996 Cronos, and ticking sound which could be heard inside the car when driving is gone but there is a tapping sound which is heard from outside the car.
WHen I was removing my own solid lifters there were washers added under them {between lifter and valve spring}, there where only 8 washers, do not remember which group valves were they from intake or exhaust. Do not think they were installed by manufacturer.
Now I am thinking of putting my own solid lifters back[think ticking was better than tapping], but how to remove ticking sound? Do I have to adjust the valve clearance? Solid lifters do not get worn then how does valve clearance change by time?
