Today, when i turned on my '07 mazda 6, i waited for 10 minutes, letting the engine remain on. But then, i was clumsy thinking the car was off(CAUSE I WAS ON THE PHONE) SO THEN I TRIED TO TURN ON THE CAR WHILE THE CAR WAS ON. When i did that, i heard a loud sound which sounded like metal banging against each other. Nothing happened later and everything seems to be fine, but im scared that future engine problems will happen. What do i do?

It was your starter trying to engage the spinning flywheel on the engine while the engine was running. Don't do anything. If your car continues to start, you'll have no problems. Pretend it didn't happen.

Nothing except STAY OFF OF THE PHONE WHEN YOUR ENGINE IS IDLING AND WASTING GAS. When you try to start an already running engine, the Bendix gear in your starter will try to engage and will make a lot of noise. Since the Bendix gear is designed to have an over running clutch. nothing will happen. You will not have any future problems unless you make it a habit.

you just turned the starter. the worst cause is that your teeth for the flywheel break off and you have to get a new one.
