Mazda 3 or VW Jetta?

Im 19, with a budget of stretching it $14,000. Im spending all my own money (4500) that I saved for quite a while. I was interested in the Mazda 3 hatchback (06 or 08 model) and then my Dad had me drive an 07 VW Jetta. Both cars drive nice but it felt like the Jetta had a more solid feel to it and a bit more kick. I love the Mazda though, because it has the sporty look and feel to it as well. So, if anyone has any experience with these cars, Id love to know how you feel about them. Thanks everyone
