Matte Frame? Guest book for wedding....?

I want a matte frame around a picture of my FI and I for the guests to sign instead of a guest book, but I don't know if I will need any special kind of pen for this? I don't know where to get started, has anyone else done this before? Thank you!
 
They sell the mats at Wal-Mart if that is what you're looking for in various sizes. It will probably have instructions on the packaging, or you can buy an extra one and experiment with different markers/pens

Any pen will do on a matte board.
Just don't use a cheap one, I mean, a good felt pen would do.
Or one of those fine-tip permanent markers
 
I would just get a couple thin Sharpie markers. That's what we used at my friend's wedding when she did the same kind of thing. It turned out very nice and they have it hung in their living room.
 
Do NOT use just any pen!
If you use a pen that is NOT photo-safe, your lovely engagement picture will suffer!
Go to your photographer, local frame shop, craft store or even some of the larger retailers (think Target) and look in their craft section for a photo-safe pen.
I have two quick stories to share:
1) a friend of mine used this same idea. One of the guests had a drink or two too many and wrote some LARGE and profane items on their beautiful photo matte. No way they were displaying that in thier home!
2) My husband and I did it too, but didn't have any problems! We didn't serve alcohol (for religious reasons) at our reception!
My point: If you do this, think very carefully about your guest list. If there is someone there you think has the potential to ruin this for you - skip the idea.
But trust me on the pen - go get a photo-safe one.

Most matte frames usually come with a pen. If not, buy a fine, felt-tip pen or marker (preferably in black). You can find these in any craft store or any store that sells scrapbook supplies. Try to stay away from ballpoint or cheap and smudgy pens.
