Mates that are in the Service (Military) In the USA?

I am really considering joining the military (USAF or Navy) here in the states.

I was just curious though about two things.

One, do ppl actually appreciate what you are doing? Like, do they thank you and stuff?
Unfortunately i don't think veterans and active get enough recognition.

Second, are any of you going to college while in? If so, how is that going? (very difficult, not too bad, takes determination etc)

ps I am Austrian / American but I think America's military gets slightly more funding xD
 
I served 3 yrs in the Canadian Military and people do appreciate you, people really show respect to a military man. I never went to college while in, your first couple years you will be swamped with military training and army courses i doubt you'd have time for college stuff in the beginning.

I don't know how things are in the American army but I hope this helped anyways
