Master of fine art/graphic design ?

i want to pursue my education in master of fine art or graphic design degree & i need scholarship .
my question is :Do I need activity and volunteer job to get in? i mean this factor (activity and volunteer job ) can help me to win scholarship or not ??so If I need it , what kind of activity and volunteer job I should do?
any advice or opinion ??
