I remember Mary Poppins was on telly at Christmas. We told our 5 year old daughter about it. She became excited and wanted to watch. We then decided to go and buy the DVD, so we could watch it without adverts (we never show her adverts. Bad bad things).
So, went and bought DVD. Settled down in front of the telly. Guy on roof fires the cannon. Daughter gets scared and says she doesn't want to watch any more. We persuaded her that it was a nice film for children and not scary.
Dick Van Dyke talks in a funny voice and dances a bit. She liked that.
Then, the father is horrible to the children and tears up their list. 'Why is he being horrible to the children?' she asks, and decided she doesn't like that either.
Then Mary Poppins appears, floating down on her umbrella. All the nannies that are waiting at the door get blown away. Five year old daughter says this isn't a nice thing to do. She doesn't like Mary Poppins.
Singing and dancing in the bedroom. Spit spot. All that stuff. Five year old daughter seems okay with that.
Then Mary Poppins slides down the bannister and takes the kiRAB out the front door. Five year old daughter says she is horrible because she is taking them away from their mummy, gets up, turns off the telly and goes and plays with her toys.
Anyone want a Mary Poppins DVD?
