Here are some interesting statistics that just came off of Gallup this week:
Candidate Support by Marital Status and Gender (Weekly: Sept 29-Oct 5, 2008):
Married Men:
Barack Obama: 40%
John McCain: 53%
Unmarried Men:
Barack Obama: 56%
John McCain: 37%
Married Women:
Barack Obama:46%
John McCain: 48%
Unmarried Women:
Barack Obama: 60%
John McCain: 29%
All of Population (Daily: Oct 8, 2008):
Barack Obama: 52%
John McCain: 41%
It appears that married people are much more likely to support McCain, while unmarried people are much more likely to support Obama - why should we expect this to be true?
