Marine boot camp and OCS?

So I am a junior in high school and I have decided a long time ago I want to be a US Marine. Well here's the thing; I haven't decided if I want to go enlisted or officer yet. I go back and forth. People tell me not to go in enlisted and my guidance counciler(spelling?) at my high school says that I can easily get an ROTC scholarship if I keep my grades up.

I have done a lot of research about both and I like the fact that if you are an officer you do not have to sign those 8 year contracts. One of the only things that concerns me about enlisted is the paycheck.
Also, is skipping the enlisted ranks by doing ROTC and OCS easier than boot? I have heard Boot is way harder, if I do decide to go enlisted I am up for the challenge, so don't judge me wrong by that question.
I would rather only have people who have served in the USMC or US military answer, as they would know what they are talking about. Thanks in advance.
 
well.. even if you do OCS you still have to go through boot camp...
im a freshman in college.. and did not pursue an ROTC scholarship cuz im an idiot.. but there are plenty of other programs to become an officer other then ROTC.. and some come from being enlisted.. like MECEPS .. i want to do PLC.. which is you stay in college .. and do summer training.. then get commisioned.. let me know if you have other questions..

um.. i do know what im talking about.. im currently experiencing it..
 
Ok here it is......all enlisted go through boot camp aka recruit training....its probably pretty close to what your thinking....OCS is pretty much boot camp for officers.....it stands for officer candidate school.....to be an officer in the USMC you need to have at least a BA degree im pretty sure you could go through OCS and then finish your school and then get commissioned. The main differences between OCS and Recruit training are this......at OCS you can quit whenever you want just because you want to the USMC doesn't want to have officers who are there just because they signed a contract and now they're stuck....if you become an officer you will start off leading Marines who have up to 8 years of experience in the USMC. At recruit training your not just gonna get out simply because you want to...there better be a damn good reason....at OCS they transform you into a Marine and teach you how to immediately lead Marines.....at Recruit training they make you a Marine. they dont have to make you an officer just because you made it through they have to feel like you deserve it......at recruit training if you make it through then you graduate and your a Marine......Personally i love being enlisted....its an awesome brotherhood....yea officers get paid a little more but it wasn't enough for me....you could always start enlisted and go officer later....but i dont think you can do it the other way around.
