I'm going to be a freshman next year and I was wondering if marching band helps you get into college. So should I take marching band or an AP class ? If I take marching band I'll have to take the course online. But my parents have already payed for marching band which was about 250 dollars. What should I do? Which one will help me in the long run?

Both! I was really serious about fine art and AP classes throughout high school, but I did both and it turned out fine. I didn't take any APs freshman year, took one sophomore year, three junior year, and four senior year and everything worked out totally fine. And art made it all more enjoyable. I'll be a college freshman this year.

Take a risk, it will pay off! Colleges love seeing dynamic students. They don't want someone who's a total nerd and can't do anything else. :)

Good luck, and make the best of high school! And don't forget to have fun--getting into college is huge, but also realize that high school is all about discovery and you'll make friendships that will last a lifetime.

Oh, and also: I only got to skip one college class (Calculus) as a result of AP credits even though I scored high on all of them. So don't assume it's going to make things quicker later on, it might just help prepare you.

Do both! I did both and I turned out fine. It'll look the best if you had both because it shows that you can balance extracurriculars and a challenging class. Which AP class would you be taking?

In my opinion, AP classes are better in the long run. Do you plan on continuing marching band throughout college or majoring in a musical area? If not, then sure, marching band looks great as an extracurricular, but it won't really help your academic transcript.

If you score well on the AP exam at the end of the year, you can save a good amount of money by earning credits before you ever get to college.

Of course, if you can take both and think you can handle it, do it.
