Manual transmission car question?

Let's say ur driving a manual and all of a sudden you need to stop in an emergency cuz of some one in ur way or the car in front of u suddenly brakes really fast. How do u go about stopping, getting back in gear, effects on ur engine/clutch/car etc.?

You slam on the break and clutch at the same time. If you come to a complete stop naturally you start off again in first. If you just slow down then resume at a slower speed you clutch and downshift to the most appropriate gear.
