Maltese question about grooming?

I am planning on getting a maltese within the next 2-4 weeks but i have once concern im not sure of. I read that you have to brush there hair everyday. Most maltese are those show dogs with the long hair. Do i have to brush there hair everyday if i cut my dogs hair to short? i do not want it to have the long hair that is in the shows. So in all if i have the dog with short hair do i have to brush it everyday?
 
You can keep her shaved. That will roughly be an every 3 month process. I highly suggest you keep up with the grooming because you do not want her to get matted. Matting is expensive, and can cause serious health issues.

You don't have to brush a Maltese in show coat every day, so you don't have to brush a clipped down one every day. Dogs in full coat are groomed once or twice a week.

When your puppy is going through a coat change from puppy to adult coat, they are more prone to matting and you will need to comb often, but once you have the adult dog in a short teddy bear trim, you'll only have to brush once a week or so.
