mallaria and toiphoid treatment

Hi, Manzoorkhas . . . I have home medical encyclopedias. Here is a brief description.

Malaria - a parasitic disease spread by anopheles mosquitoes. Symptoms include severe fever, shaking and chills, and can also include complications of the kidneys, liver, brain and blood.

It usually takes one to two weeks after a bite from a parasite carrying mosquito for symptoms to begin to show.

If you are taking anti-malarial drugs at the time of the bite, symptoms can take up to a year to show.

Diagnosis is made by six to 12 hour blood smears to look for the parasites which are visible under a microscope.

Treatment is done in the hospital generally with chloroquine which eradicates the parasites from the blood stream. If this particular treatment does not work, they use quinine, pyrimethamine and sulfadoxine. In serious cases, blood transfusions may be given.

Primaquine may be given for two weeks after treatment to eradicate parasites from the liver.

Typhoid - an infectious disease from eating food or drinking water contaminated with salmonella typhosa.

Incubation of typhoid is one to two weeks after ingestion of contaminated source. Symptoms include severe headache, fever, loss of appetite, malaise, abdominal tenderness, constipation and sometimes delirium.

Constipation can give way to diarrhea. Small spots will begin to appear on the chest and abdomen. The liver and spleen will become enlarged.

Diagnosis is by blood, urine or fecal sample which reveal antibodies against the bacteria.

Antibiotics such as chloramphenicol or ampicillin usually bring it under control in a few days. For severe cases, corticosteroid drugs are added.

I hope this helps you understand it better.

If I can answer anything further, let me know.

Lindaru :)
