Hello,
My year old Cockatiel has recently become aggressive towards me. He lives in a large cage with a 3 year old female parakeet that wouldn't go to her own cage anymore and chose to live with him. They are very sweet together. The birds are out all day long on weekends when we're home and from 5:00 on in the work week and when my husband works from home, several days a week, they are out.
The behavior only started a couple of weeks ago when it started becoming darker earlier and the cockatiel won't go back to his cage like usual to go to bed.
This morning I woke up later than my husband, came down stairs and the cockatiel spent about 10 minutes lunging at me, at my face and trying to bite. This is the third time this has happened and it is only me, not my husband, but the bird is bonded with me and not so much my husband. The behavior passes and then he sits and talks to me and asks for kisses and head rubs.
I know hormones are at play, but why me, and why when I just walk into a room or see him for the first time that day? I feel like he is angry at me or something.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.
