Male charcters you mistook for a female

It is no secret that in the world of manga / anime there are many male characters that have long hair, wear makeup, and some even wear a female top. And some effeminate characters as well. There is a difference between looking like a girl and being effeminate in my opinion. For example, Umichika from Bleach is one of the more effeminate characters ever, and I have no trouble telling that is a guy. There are some that does fall into both categories.

What characters did you at first look either mistake for a girl or had to look twice to be sure?

What I can think of at the moment.

Edward Elric and Envy (Fullmetal Alchemist) - in the case of Edward, it depenRAB on the lighting or hairstyle and if it is wideshot. When he uses his ponytail style, it is hard to tell. I have to admit, he would make an attractive girl.

Envy in his normal form, looks like a girl. Either way, he is an ugly man and would make an ugly woman.

Tiera (Mobile Suit Gundam 00) - I really thought he was a woman at first, didn't help that he can change genders.

Fisheye (Sailor Moon) - falls into the category of looking female and effeminate. I honestly only first saw Sailor Moon season 3 and 4 in Japanese, and when I first saw him, I thought he was a girl. It was a trip when I found out the dub changed him to a girl.

I thought that Saturn from Pokemon was a girl for the longest time. He looked feminine and even the Japanese voice sounded feminine to me, luckily, the English voice at least was voiced by a male, and sounded like a male. Then there was also Zoey in Pokemon as well, except I thought that she was a guy at first, due the fact that she sounded boyish in both English and Japanese, dressed up more like the boys in Pokemon.

Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. Seriously I thought he was girl the first time I saw him. Then he talk and I knew then what gender he was. Johan from Monster in recent episode I mistook him for his sister.

I believe Chrona is a girl. Medusa refer to her as her daughter. Plus I seem to remeraber seeing official artwork of her in bikini.

Jakotso- InuYasha- Honestly, his clothes, voice, hair, etc. all made him look like a girl.

Tsubasa- Ranma 1/2: Even though he's a more minor character, he still wears a wig and dress.

If Envy is a guy, then I'd have to go with him. However, I'm pretty sure that I read or heard somewhere before that Homunculi have no gender.

Since you mention Inuyash reminRAB me:

Byakuya (Inuyasha) - not as flaraboyant as Jakotso, but still looks feminine to me.

Fongfong (Rosario + Vampire II) - a manga only character, but still hard to tell. If his older sister wasn't his older sister, I would think they were twins.

A minor character, but I don't see any physical quality that would make think the tea ceremony boy from Sailor Moon S is a boy.

thought chrona was a guy...I was awful confused myself but they said guy quite a bit in the show... anyway I am shocked we haven't seen

thread spinner kazuki

Haha, sorry. He was the first person that came to mind when I first saw this thread. I jumped at the chance since no one mentioned him yet.

...Is it wrong to be attracted to a guy who looks so much like a girl? Gahhhhhhhh.

Though this never happens in the Code Geass series at all...(P.S. you've been warned. )

From the Lost Colors game.

Just like a lot of posters above, Envy fits the bill as guy that I can't just help but look at as a female. I think that the 1st anime series mentioned that the Homunculi have no gender, but I honestly don't recall reading it in the manga or hearing it mentioned in Brotherhood (if it was mentioned, then it must be pretty easy to miss).
