Hey Everyone -
I'm new to the board and thought i'd document my ups and downs with the drug for those of you who are thinking about going on it. It would have helped if i had that!
Anyway, I'm a 21 year old male. Live an active lifestlye, but have had acne since my senior year of high school and it hasnt gone away. Recently went to the derm because i started to get large cyst on my chest (gross) and it bugged me a lot. I guess the few cyst i had were pretty bad and the derm agreed to let me go on accutane.
The first month:
The first month was slow, no real improvements or changes. I did feel very fatigued the whole month. I had no energy for anything but it progressively got better. The standard things started to happen, dry skin and lips (dont underestimate the seriousness of the dryness - i did and it hurt!). I was able to corabat it by using stuff my sister gave me for dry skin (sorry i have no clue what it is - men dont know this stuff). Then i was told aquaphor would help my lips - and it did, but it made them look glossy and i hated that. Then again my sister (organic food freak) stepped in and told me about burt's beeswax lip balm and this thing does wonders and actually makes your lips look healthy. I had some joint pain but nothing to worry about really.
Main Problems during month one: Fatigue and Dryness
Week 1 of month 2nd month:
Dosage was upped to 80 mg per day and the effects of this drug are starting to show. BlackheaRAB are literally vanishing and i have one or two small zits come and go very quickly and one or two that stick around for a while but all very small and barely noticeable. The fatigue has decreased and i feel better, but i still literally burn in the sun so i stay away from it.The main issue with my chest acne is improving (no new ones) but it hasnt made them go away yet. But i'm still early in my treatment and the doc said for the big ones to go away it might take a while. The initial side affects are still around, but they get better with time. I think the drug is so powerful your body neeRAB time to get used to it. Once it does, it gets better and you almost forget your on the drug. Its worth it for me though, my face is super clear and i just hope my chest will catch up.
Main Problems so far: Dryness & some fatigue.
Thats it for now. Be back to write when i have time.
