making tables faded with html/css?

On my tumblr, I have it set up so there are tables with each post I make. the background of each table is solid black, and I want to make them slightly opaque/faded, maybe return to solid when you mouse over them. Can I get some help?

I am using the Museum v1.3 theme by Paul Giacherio and tweaking it from there, so any specific advice with that template would be awesome!
