making a wow/ battle net account as of dec 2010?

is it now compulsory to enter an email address for a parent / guardian when making a WoW / Battle.net account? im 17, i dont need my parents to help me make a game account, since when was it like this? you used to be able to make them whatever age, over 12 or something... is there any way around it without lying about your age? thanks
