Make an HTML DIV extend whole page width?

I'm quite good at using HTML, and I'm working on making a layout for my website using css/html. I want to use a DIV (a box) as the header, but i would like it to fit the entire page width, no matter how much you shrink the web browser. if that makes any sense. Any help? thank you!
