Hi, over the last 3 yrs I have undergone all manner of tests/scans and have seen a nuraber of specialists, more recently a neurosurgeon. The outcome is that I have no spinal fluid below L4 when standing and the specialist has recommended a 2 Level TLIF and Decompression. I have double stenosis L4/L5 and S1 affected. Can anyone advise me on the long term affects of spinal fluid not reaching all of spine? And would also like to talk to anyone that has had this operation that can offer some advise/personal experience.

wow Dee...so sorry that you are having this experience. I have no knowledge about lack of spinal fluid in different areas of your spine. This does not sound right..I've never heard of it before. When will you be having your surgery?? We will be here for you...take care.

Hi Leslie
Thank you for your support. I am told the spinal fluid shuts off at L4 when I am standing due to the double stenosis - its hell, thats why I have grabbed the surgery option with both hanRAB! You know when it gets so bad that life doesnt feel worth living - well I was at that stage. I have a pressured job and was feeling the pressure from this back problem so much that I truly think I could not continue to work for much longer. But my prayers have been answered and I have been offered this surgery and frankly I did not once consider saying no to it. These back problems stem from a bad car accident in July 2005 and have progressively got worse and now unbearable. I am hoping to get the op paid for on the other drivers insurance as he has admitted liability and they have already paid for MRI scan, Myelogram and CT scans plus private consultation with the neurosurgeon, so I am hoping if they accept the cost, I could having op within a month, but the wheels turn slowly in the insurance business in the UK but I am still hopeful. The surgeon says op has to be done so has also put me on his NHS operating list which means if all else fails I will get the op done within 4/5 mths from now.
I thank you for your kind response and will keep you posted on my little journey to full health. Keep smiling and be happy.Dee
