maintaining facial hair?

im trying to keep some facial hair around my jaw line. it connects to my sideburns and traces my jawline. i then have it under my chin. im having a hard time maintaining it. im wanting to keep it pretty short, but i end up butchering it and it gets uneven and messed up. also, on my left cheek area i noticed that it starts forming a swirl pattern. i dont know how to make that stop. i have a remington shaver that has: miniscreen shaver, 17mm trimmer, 30mm trimmer, adjustable comb attachments. i keep trying the miniscren shaver, but it will cut some and leave some. its hard to get it even. the others seem to take it all off. im wanting to keep a centimeter in length throughout.
