magnet school school vs public high school?

i have the choice to go to a magnet school but i am kinda reluctant it is for kids who are talented or interested in a career in math and science the problem is i have a lot of friends at my public high school but it is a horrible school by comparison except for it has sports while the magnet school doesn't which would help me get into a better college taking into account that i am a straight A student and an athlete (i am hoping to go for harvard, yale, or stanford)
