I am trying to get mac osx leopard to speak a welcome message on logon, using the speech application. So far i have been using apple script and saving as an application and then adding it as a startup application but hidden.

This does not work very well as it takes around 1 minute after login to start.

I have the script determine the time of day and using either, good morning, after noon, evening or good night. saying what day it is, then the time and how many new email messages i have.

I need it to do this as soon as i press the enter button on login or click login once i have typed my password the long delay makes it look a little silly.

Is there any other method i can use to get this to work straight on login with no delay and load everything else afterwards.

I want it to look a little like jeff goldblum's mac on independance day. where it speaks it just as he logs in
