Well, instead of asking the most common question in this section (What do you think of my poem), I thought it would be pleasant to explore more on lyrics vs. poetry.
Many believe that lyrics in should be considered poetry. Typically, these poems have a sonnet- like style. I've been reading a lot of writer's poetry on Y!Answers, and I don't think their poetry is necessarily reader friendly, but I think it could be quite interesting if they expressed the poem verbally, or in this case, lyrically.
But many still stick to the every other line rhyming style.
Below is an example of an early 90's artist's song. Please read the lyrics, and answer this question accordingly:
1) What do you think of the poem? It's structure, content, interpretation, etc.
2) Do you consider this poetry as well as composed lyrics?
3) What do you think of other writer's (as poets of all stages) in this section? Do you agree that their poetry might come off better, if it were used as song lyrics (or perhaps slam)?
Answer what you can, if you have the patience. As I said before, I thought this would be a nice break from the common questions.
Professional Widow:
Slag pit, stag shit
Honey bring it close to my lips, yes.
Don't blow those brains yet
We've gotta be big boy.
Starfucker, I'm just like my daddy.
Selling his baby.
Gunna strike a deal
Make him feel
Like a congressman.
Running in the family
It runs in the family.
Rest your shoulders peaches and cream
Everywhere a Judas, as far as you can see.
Beautiful angel calling
We've got every re-run of Muhammad Ali.
Prism perfect,
Honey bring it close to your lips.
What is termed a landslide of principle proportion
Boy, it better be big.
Mother Mary
China White
Brown may be sweeter
She will supply
She will supply
She will supply
Give me peace, love
and a hard cock.

Many Thanks!
