We are trying to buy a house in NJ. The sellers lied on the disclsure about not knowing the extent of damage to their chimney. Turns out they had fotten an estimate and found out it could cost between $13,000 and $15,000. Instead fo disclosing this info, they decided to sell the house "as is" and document on disclure only that "chimney fire in past and...flue has not been maintained" Is this illegal? What is my recourse?
They are not obligated to tell me that they had 2 estimates done, and tried to make an insurance claim? Isn't the disclosure for exactly this? They claimed they didn't know the extent of the damage.
Thanks everyone. Key words here are "We are trying to buy a house". We haven't bought it yet. I'm just trying to figure out if the seller has committed fraud. I will get a lawyer. No need for more answers.
