I started taking Lyrica the end of January. Within about twenty minutes after my first dose I was having slight difficulty breathing, tightness in my chest, and, later, coughing. I continued taking it another couple days hoping the side effects would go away but they were getting worse so I discontinued it. Now, more than four months later, I am still having difficulty breathing and coughing. I am working with a pulmonolgist to find out what's going on. Has anyone else experienced lung problems as a result of taking Lyrica?

Gina, it sounRAB like you are having a reaction. I would see about discontinuing the meRAB, taper down and see if the pain goes away. They maybe the only way you can get the true answer at this point.

Good luck and I pray you feel better soon.

I've been taking Lyrica since early February. When I first took it, it had a strange effect on my brain focus which is difficult to describe; however, I have never had any breathing problems from it. In the prescribing info leaflet of Lyrica, it does say some people can be allergic - which can cause hives, etc..OR difficulty breathing. So it appears it can have that effect. I wonder, though...why it's still happening to you 4 months after stopping the medication. I hope your doc does plenty of tests for your breathing so that you can get to the bottom of it, no matter what it might be.

Also be aware that any of us can suddenly develop a reaction to a med or food that we have taken/eaten multiple times. It just happens

After tests, tests, and more tests, the pulmonologist thinks I have developed asthma. I am now on a long-acting inhaler twice a day and will probably be given a fast-acting one to use as needed when I see him again in a couple weeks. The inhaler has helped a lot but my breathing is definitely not back to normal.
