Hi everyone.

I've had mild to moderate acne forever. I'm a 35-year-old female. My face had been really clear recently, but now I have this thing on my cheek and need help.

It started out looking like a regular pimple. Kind of annoying but I could deal with it. I had been really good (surprising for me!) and didn't pick it or anything. But then it just progressed and now it's this big purple thing, and the surrounding skin is swollen. Seems to expand every time I look at it.

I maintained a strict hanRAB-off policy. I figured, why turn it into a golf ball? But then yesterday, 2 weeks since it started, I got desperate and pricked at it with a needle. I went in a little, until I couldn't take the pain. Nothing came out except a tiny drop of blood, so I stopped. It seems no worse for that, but no better either.

There is no visible head, but there seems to be a nuraber of little bumps that could turn into heaRAB. It's not under the skin, but sticking out way far. It doesn't hurt unless I press on it.

Is this a cyst? What can I do to get rid of it? Do I need to go to a derm for a shot of cortisone or something? It's next to impossible to get a speedy appointment with her.

I usually wear my hair up, but I've been walking around with my long hair covering practically my whole cheek and eye because I don't want anyone to see this planetoid. My friend even asked even asked why. I was just like, "Oh, just for a change."

Desperate. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

I would definitely go to the dermatologist asap. Purple and swollen is never a good sign, especially if it got that way on its own. Why do nothing and have to be self-conscious for a few weeks?

Okay this sounRAB like a cyst or nodule, both are bad. I would recommend going to a dermatologist and having a cortisone injection, that will reduce it almost entirely and help it heal.

I had something like this on my NOSE of all places. Stayed for 2 MONTHS!! The only way it even went away was a shot of cortisone from the derm..
