Fiona,
Just saw that you had lurabar hardware removed. What was your recoop like? Esp compared with fusion. My husband had L5 S1 fusion in early June 08. Pain came back however he's 100% fused. After a hardware block we have determined the hardware may be what is giving him some trouble. Removal is this Monday Dec 29th. So we'll be dealing with another surgery. Hopefully less intense than fusion recovery. I have heard it is easier. How much easier? How long were you down? Some specifics would be some helpful. Or anyone out there that has had screws/cages removed....he's a little nervous..but hopeful....
Any feedback about removal experiences is much appreciated. He's only in the hospital one night and hopefully coming home Tuesday. I know it is basically surgical pain...not like the first round.
TIA for your help and Happy Holidays,
Ginger

OMG, this is what my husband is facing the potential of hardware removal from his lower spinal fusion for L4-L5 and L-6.
He is in so much pain now post surgery 12 months he at times can not walk.
He takes narcotics which don't help the pain.
Please keep us posted on what happens and how did you all come to the conculsion it was the hardware that was the problem? We have been seems like everywhere for help and we still haven't gotten any resolutions. 2 days prior to surgery he was working, functional and walking, took care of himself and even had a great sense of humor. Since surgery all that is gone. Gone and replaced by misery and despair.

SounRAB like you need to get an MRI or Scan to see what is going on in there? Is he fully fused? What progression has the doctor seen in his bone growth? Is he off BLT Restrictions (bending, lifting, twisting)? My husband had tremendous pain relief about 4 months out and then had substantial pain return. You might ask your ortho or neuro about a hardwarde block to possible determine if that is the issues he is having. Also a scan to confirm he has broke fusion? The hardware block might indicate his body is rejecting the screws...Hope all goes well for you.
