I would like to talk to someone who has had positive results from lurabar fusion. I am 66 and this appears to be where I am headed. I would like to have some idea of what to expect post surgery. I would also like to know what things you did that you feel helped you have a positive outcome. Will appreciate any information.

Hello Dixirover. I haven't had fusion surgery yet but wanted to wish you all the best. My surgery is on the 17th of this month and I'm a bit anxious about it but feel in my heart it's the right move to get me out of this hole I am in. As for looking for information from people you would be better off searching all the old posts here on health boarRAB. The reason I say this is because there doesn't seem to be a lot of people that care to respond to your posts for whatever reason. I guess people that have had the surgery and recovered don't want to be bothered with talking about it maybe? I don't know, I'm just guessing but I've had a post up for a few days now with 118 or so views and not a single person has cared to reply.

When is your surgery? I would be happy to stay in touch with you after my surgery. I'm getting a 3 level lurabar fusion. What kind of fusion are you getting? What levels to be more clear?

Hope this helps somewhat. God Bless you in your upcoming surgery, all the best to you!

Hello dixirover. Welcome to the HealtrabroadoarRAB.
I had a single-level fusion in 2004 that was successful. Even though I'm going to be having a 2-level fusion on the 17th, I feel that my 1st fusion was a success. Recovery is slow. Just follow doctors orders and you will be fine. Keep a positive attitude. The main thing with recovery following fusion is walking. Walking is key to a successful recovery. I walked a mile a day starting within my 1st month after surgery.I will be on here til the 17th (surgery date). I'll be glad ti answer any questions you have. Once again, welcome!

Thanks! It is helpful to know that someone else is about to do this. I have had three back surgeries already, but this will be the first fusion. We have been trying to avoid this but looks like we have run out of options. Tomorrow is the MRI, then back to Neurosurgeon next Wednesday. It is either L1,2,3,4 or L2,3,4,5 not exactly sure right now but will let you know. I have never had an epidural but may have to try one to try to get through the holidays if he thinks it will give me some relief. I am definitely a Christmas person and hate to screw it up! I will be praying for you on the 17th so that all will go well for you and maybe when you feel up to it you can let me know how you are doing. Stay safe.

Well thank you for your prayers and well wishes. I too will pray for you and your speedy full recovery. It seems that there are three of us about to get surgery on the 17th, it will be a tri-fecta of successful surgeries on the 17th! Well baby is crying, duty is calling. I will be logged on tomorrow as well searching for any and all info this board has to offer. Goodnight!

Sorry I can't be of much help except if you look at the sticky's for the board there is one for post op tips and there are several there and all look to be very helpful.
I am scheduled for a multi-level fusion on Dec 1, 2010 but mine will be minimally evasive so I am hoping I am up at it pretty quick.
I had a microdiscectomy just 3 months ago and the post op pain is still VERY fresh so I am nervous/scared but only of the post op pain. I just look at the bigger picture, which is enjoying life, my wonderful husband of 11 1/2 yrs and my three children ages 9, 5 & 5 (identical twins).
Good luck to you all!!!!

to Mom without sleep. Thanks for the pointers. I am sorry you are having so pain much so young. I will pray for you to have a very good outcome on the 1st! I can understand your fear - scary for us all. Concentrate on what they tell you to do and the physical therapy. I think that helps a lot. Hope you will be back enjoying kiRAB in no time. Identical twins - wow! I have triplet granRABons but thank heaven they are not identical! I would be mixed up all the time. If you get a chance, let me know how your surgery goes. Best of luck to you - dixirover

Yeah, twins, I mean NOO twins! Ha, I have three kiRAB and both my wife and I have twins in our families. Her brother and sister are twins! So you bet all three times we were praying for just one passenger in there ya know?! Anyway, there are a heck of a lot of bad backs out there on a heck of a lot of good people. I hope everyone encountering a surgery here soon will have the best possible outcome in a very speedy way. My nervous anticipation for my surgery on the 17th is growing at a steady rate so I'm focused on keeping myself calm, as I suffer from anxiety on top of it all, and just go in there with the best of attitudes and stay focused on a full recovery. There is just so much great information on this site from a lot of good people I'm so glad I joined. I'm not sure of the rules of this forum if you are allowed to mention other website names so I will avoid doing that and tell you all that I plan to video tape my entire experience in a sort of documentary and post it all on the most popular of video websites (hint hint) as I go through the entire process. I'm going to do this because there is another fellow on there already, a 25 yo male, who did the same but I felt that having another, more detailed, documentary would be just that much better for people who are looking to learn about this surgery. It and all you all's help have been so great in getting me mentally prepared. Now I don't feel like I'm walking into a deep dark cavern of painful uncertainty. I think you can ask all the questions you want about recovery but as each of us have different Doc's and are different people so we will all have our own unique and personalized experiences with recovery. But that said, to get a base line or a barometer as to what to expect is so, so helpful.

If someone will update me as to the rules of this forum whether or not I am allowed to state that websites name I will be happy to let you all in on my project so that you can follow along with me through my surgery! My fingers are tired, goodnight!:dizzy:

Wow - your surgery is very soon too. Thanks so much for the info - I hope to follow your progress too is you do not mind. Dixirover
