Those who are in France or in Canada will be able to see this new film based on the popular European character: Lucky Luke.
Go West: A Lucky Luke Adventure

As someone at Cartoon Brew said: "What does it say that a French animation house can make a cartoon about the American West that looks a hundred times funnier than HOME ON THE RANGE?"

BTW, sorry I couldn't link to something with lower resolution.

Cool trailer.

My question is what do French animated films have against the US market? First we didn't get the new Asterix movie, and now we're getting stiffed on this. There's something fishy going on.

I think it may just be the American Market not wanting to expand it's animation in films past Shrek knockoffs courtosy of the Weinstien company.

I Don't understand why we didn't even get a lousy Asterix DVD. Someone's gotta buy up some rights or something and put all the films into a box set.

Strangely, Disney (of all people) once released a Lucky Luke film on VHS back in the 1980's. It was dubbed into English pretty well and the narrator was obviously trying to imitate Jeremy Stewart. Don't know who dubbed it, doubt Disney did it themselves. It's been out of print for ages, though I picked up a copy somewhere many years ago.

For those who want to see the trailer in lower def there is a button under the video that says 'sortir du mode haute definition' ('sortir' being the key word). Click on it for a lower def trailer.

Man that looks awesomely hilarious! Lucky Luke the Cowboy who shoots faster than his shadow! I loved the Superman tribute with him changing into his cowboy duds in the phonebooth ^o^

I was not aware that movie was coming! I'll be sure to go check it out if its released here in theatre!! It'll probably take a while for it to come along.

Anyone have any guesses about who might do voices in the English version? The last Asterix wasn't released in the US, but it still had famous American actors.

A couple Asterix movies were released on VHS, to the best of my knowledge. That was years ago, and I forget the brand of video tape. That said, if you look very hard in a dollar store, you'll find a cheap DVD with Asterix and Cleopatra. Not a very dignified release, IMO, but it's something.

Well, to be ironic and infuriating, they did premire it just once at a film festival in the US. Can't recall which one. As far as I can guess no distribution company wanted to pick it up. Which was a dirty shame, because they had those 2 horrible movies, Hoodwinked and Doogal made instead, or at least the Weinstine company could have picked it up.

I think they just wanted a slice of the CGI pie... instead they just got dried up crumbs when they could have gotten of a juicey morsel of boar >.>

Actually Doogal had already been made as "The Magic Roundabout", a European/UK product, which generated favourable reviews at that part of the world. If the Weinstein's were to blame for anything, it's that they allowed the idea of redubbing the movie with American celebrities and make it more Americanised to go through.

Oh yeah, I realised something that would never allow this movie to probably get good reception here.

Asian-American and Native American civil rights groups will probably sue for the so-called offending stereotypes of the Chinese fellow and the Indians attacking the wagon train.

Eh, I just wanted someone to scapegoat. They were involved in the great TMNT movie, but their other stuff is craptastic. I mean, you'd think that with the CGI animated movie glut, someone would find a 2-D animated one refreshing. And Indeed the Simpsons movie and several anime movies are well recieved.

I was at least hoping for an art house showing.

But I wouldn't be surprised that one of those minority groups does not get the message about how Lucky Luke's characters are stereotypes, and think it's something racist and offensive.
