Hi there,
I was diagnosed with LPR when I saw an ENT consultant last year. I went on two Protium 40 mg a day and after four months I went on a Zantac prior to bedtime as symthoms weren't improving. My major symtoms incuded reflux and belching after eating and the most crippling is a soreness in the throat which is exassperated when I speak or push my voice. It's soul destroying as I've just graduated with degree in drama and I want to pursue an acting career. Not only has LPR affected me during course but also my overall lifestyle. I seldom go out because I fear for my throat and voice. I have also suffered from depression as a result. I was on two protium and zantac for nearly ten months and there was some improvement. I started reducing my ppi intake recently and then I stopped completely. However I have started taking the full dosage again as I am suffering from the same symptoms again. I would have thought that ten months of usage would have solved the issue but it didn't. How long does it take for larynx to completely recover?? I am afraid now I am back to square one. Also, I am sick of living like a hermit. Do people have any advice how far one neeRAB to go with regarRAB to diet etc. is it ok to have the odd drink of alcohol etc. I was careful enough about my diet without ever being compulsive about it. Is this where I went wrong?? I was under the impression that the ppi's would suppress the excess acid anyway. Are we LPR sufferers destined to be social outcasts or what? I would appreciate any advice. Also, I come from Ireland where the follow up support for people with this type of issue is non-existent. I saw an ENT initially here who was a pig and offered no follow up support or monitoring, surely this illness should be monitored closely for signs of improvement etc. Eventually, I ended up going to London to see an ENT. Do people on this website find the same thing?? what would you recomment. In Ireland, there is no designated voice clinic. ENT's, gastrologists etc. don't work together to monitor your progress, it seems to be up to you and your G.P. to send you to one or the other. In other worRAB nobody seems to take control and manage and monitor your progress. Do other people find the same thing?? what would you recommend?? I'm sorry this is a bit of a rant and long !!!! I'm just very frustrated.
