I have just doubled the dose of PPI I've been taking (aciphex). My question is whether people have had better success with taking the PPI med twice a day...or the full dose in the morning? Right now my most annoying symptoms are a cough and throat clearing.

It really depenRAB on how bad your reflux is and what type of symptoms you have. Many people with LPR symptoms have the most success with taking PPI's twice a day. This is the full strength once 1/2 hour before breakfast and a second time 1/2 hour before dinner to be most effective. The 60 mg Kapidex also helps in that regarRAB because it is a time released product.

My doctor recommenRAB taking it the way you suggest. But, I've read that many people need the double dose in the morning. Right now, the cough is my worst, newest and most persistent symptom in addition to mucus/throat clearing.

Have you made lifestyle changes to help? Changing your diet and sleeping with your headboard propped up 6 inches should help some. My doctor also recommended supplementing with other OTC products. Most people on this board who use PPT's twice per day and supplement have been recommended Gaviscon or Zantac as their additional supplement. Mine had me on the Gaviscon. A word of advice though...avoid the strawberry smoothie flavor.

Some PPI's have different strengths. You might talk to your doctor before doubling up at one time. You certainly want to be safe with the amounts you take.

I have made all the recommended dietary changes...but have not lifted my bed because my symptoms don't bother when sleeping. I was getting better...but then after a nasty cold...got a very annoying dry cough. I am taking 2 (20 mg) pills of achiphex in the am. But, think tomorrow I will split the dosage am/pm. I have not tried anything else to supplement. You seem very knowledgable...so perhaps I should also get some Gaviscon. When do you take that? Thanks for your help. Suzanne
