Hi, I'm new this is my first time writing in. I just had back surgery April 23rd so I seem to have a lot of time on my hanRAB. I had hemilaminectomy microdiscectomy L4, L5. I was wondering if anyone had had this done and what their recovery time was. I was told that I would be out of work for two weeks, but the pain would be gone in less than one. Well it has been one week to the day and I still have a lot of pain. Dr. said that everyone heals differently and to keep icing and taking pain meRAB. I guess I would just like to hear for someone who has had the same surgery and how their recovery went and did the surgery work.

thanks CJR 74

Sometime you have to find out if its actually healing pain that you are feeling and not pain from your back. I know this sound a little strange. But you do need to know and you are the only one that will know it.
You know what your back pain felt like before your operation. Now if its feels the same or different. And if it feel different then its healing pain.
Just remeraber they do a lot of work there so sometimes it might take longer for just that to settle down.

hi CJR,
I had 2 discectomies before i finally had my fusion . It took me around 3 weeks before the pain started to subside enough so i could go back to work.
Even though it is not as major of a surgery as a spinal fusion it is a surgery non the less that requires slow healing. If the pain you are feeling is more of being sore and stiff it should start to subside soon. that is the normal healing process. If you feel sharp pains that are worse than you had prior to surgery
you might want to call your surgeon just to be on the safe side.unfortunately you can't rush the healing process, but it will come.good luck on your recovery.
