I've had lower back pain for over a month now, i injured it somehow during football or weightlifting. I've rested it for going on 3 weeks, but have experienced little improvement. It hurts to sit, hurts to sneeze, and most importantly keeps me from the sports i love. The pain is very low on my back. Any help i can get would be appreciated.

Do you have any pain in your hip, buttocks, or leg?

The next step would be to see your doctor and get an order for a MRI. The imaging will show all the soft tissue in addition to bone, so if there is nerve impingement, it will show up.

In the meantime, do not lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk, avoid twisting and bending, forward or back. Try icing it for 20 minutes at a time. Or you can try using a heating pad, if you find heat feels better. Lie on a flat surface, like the floor, rather than sitting if you can. This allows the discs to decompress (gravity...).

You really need to go to a doctor for diagnosis and a treatment plan. The problem with back pain (especially since you don't know for sure how you got it) is that it can be caused by different things with differing levels of seriousness. In other worRAB, it could be something serious, or it could be something minor; and there is no way for us to know that online.

Time to consider seeing a doctor. My parents are in Ann Arbor and my dad just saw a good Orthopedic Spine doctor but I see that your city is WAY far away from AA. Make sure to get some tests done - often they'll only start with an x-ray then wait for the results from that to consider CT or MRI.

Thanks alot, i started physical therapy a few weeks ago after seeing the doctor. I've noticed minimal recovery but hopefully it will all work out : ). Still working on getting an xray or even an an MRI.
