i have had lower back pain for years and sitting for more than 10 minutes
is still very painful, had a spinal fusion 8 weeks ago but am no better.

Angie, you are fairly fresh from spinal surgery and it is expected that sitting will bother you at this point I personally find that reclining in a recliner is best for me with my knees bent. Many doctors do not adquately prepare their patients for the length of recovery from this surgery. It can take up to 6 months to a year or more. It is a very big surgery.

Did you have a one level fusion with hardware?

Are you at home? Working? Do you have help at home or are you flying solo?

Hi Angie, and welcome to the board.

Pepper is absolutely right. This is a huge surgery with a long recovery time, and the doctors tend to downplay it. I was given a 15 minute sitting restriction for the first several months, but even that was too much. At first, I could only tolerate 5 minutes, and that was hard. It was very slow getting up to 15 minutes. Give yourself time. You'll get there! Walk as much as you're able, as it gets blood circulating around the spine, which is essential for bone growth. I made sure that every time I got up to use the bathroom, I stayed up afterward and walked for as long as I could, even if it was just back and forth in my bedroom for 10 minutes.

Hang in there, sweetie! It gets easier!

Blessings,
Emily

Thanks for the info, maybe i am expecting too much too soon.
My worry is that i had my first post op check last week and when i mentioned the fact that i am unable to sit to my surgeon he said he had never come across this problem before and didn't have a answer for me, so he dismissed it and told me to make another appointment for four months time, left the hospital feeling very down.
