hi there

It has only been the last few weeks that I have started to get real lowere back pain when I sit at my desk or drive for long perioRAB of time.

My mum has said its because I need a new materess on my bed as Im waking up with it sometimes too, could this really be the solution? I still find my bed really comfy and have had the same matteress for approx 4 years.

thanks for any advice given

It could. It also could be caused by a garabit of other things. If the pain continues or worsens you might consider seeing your doctor for an evaluation.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Hi, I think you probably should see a doctor first, otherwise you might end up wasting alot of money on a new mattress for nothing (like I have done). Of course I can't tell you what it is....but I do know that sitting and driving put the most pressure on the spine, so it's possible you might have some compression in your spine. A disc could be bulging, but again, this is just one possibility. But I personally have alot of pain while sitting and driving kills me (you can't move around and the bucket seats are not suited for one with back pain). I tried buying new mattresses and a bunch of other things when my back pains started, but it didnt help me. I turned out to have spine problems. You might want to try using moist heat over the area that hurts and see if that helps at all.
