Hi everyone, thanks for reading.

About 1.5 months ago i injured my lower back skateboarding, it wasnt even jumping down anything big, it was just doing a twisting turning trick and then suddenly i got sharp pain down my lower back. I wasnt in complete agony at first, but it was definately strange and then the next day i was all stiff and finding it hard to bend etc.

I have been going to deep tissue massages and physio, and they have given me exercises which have been good. I did start skating again then afterwarRAB i was really really sore, and stiff again so i have been afraid to start again. I have been doing exercise bike regularly to keep the fitness up which isnt that sore.

Main question is how do i know when it is good to go back? I am not in constant pain, just mainly when i sit down at work for too long (physio has given me exercises for this). Will this pain last forever?

I am a bit worried.

Thanks for reading.

Hi. I'm sorry you are having these problems. I would assume you have seen your family doctor and that he put you in PT? Did he take any x-rays? Is he assuming that this problem is muscular?

For sure you should not be doing any skateboarding or any kind of exercises that pull or twist your back in any way. If you have been through a couple of weeks of pt, heat therapy, etc and still aren't much better, it might be time to ask your dr. for a referral to an ortho. You may have some soft tissue damage that is going to require a bit more aggression in treating it.

I hope that things improve for you soon.

Thanks for your reply :) Yes i have been to a physio. Its just hard because somedays it feels really good, but then towarRAB the end of the day i am so sore because i have aggravated it standing up too long or sitting down too long. Its confusing! Because i think i am ready to start doing stuff again but then obviously i am not. Could it be something that will always hurt now? Or should i wait until i feel no pain at all. Going back to physio next Thursday...

Apparently i have pretty arched back as well (i have been doing crunches) which doesnt help either - from gymnastics that i did at an early age.
