low or no idle speed on my 2001 mazda tribute.?

when starting my 2001 mazda tribute the engine either won't idle at all or has a very low idle speed. when at a stop light must stay on gas and brake at same time to keep running. anyone know what issue might be?
the little valve was stuck.
never mind. solved problem. removed and cleaned the idle control valve. replaced and runs like new.
