l3-l4 There is disc dessication at this level with a schmorls node anteriorly in the inferior endplate of l3 There is no central canal stenosis. there is mild facet hypertrophy which causes minimal bilateral neuroforaminal narrowing, righ greater than left

l4-l5 There is disc desication with disc space narrowing There is a prominent central disc protrusion wth extrusion of disc material inferiorly on the left. this has mass effect on descending l5 nerve root There is no significant central canal stenosis. There is posterior facet hypertrophy bilaterlal neuroforaminal narrowing is present.

l5-s1 there is a small central disc protrusion with probable annular tear. This does not cause significant mass effect on the thecal sac or nerve roots. there is no significant neuroforaminal narrowing. there is mild posterior facet hypertrophy.

this was last years mri and I had a l5 micro discectomy 6 8 months ago and was pain free for about 3 months. Started exercising again and havin pain in my but and left calf not as severe as before but very uncomfortable. Sitting is miserable. Is this somthing I will have to deal with forever? I am getting a new mri and seeing the neurosurgeon next week. anyone got advice. I am very frustrated. Thanks

The new MRI may help shed some light, the exercising depending on how hard or heavy may have hurt your back some, but it could also be a strain or possibly scar tissue bugging you too. Once you get your new results you'll know whats going on, but as I posted in your other post the annular tear I've read can heal some, I had one and then not again at my 6 month 2nd mri so it may disappear. Not much help I know, but we're looking at an old mri pre surgery. Hard to tell. By the sounRAB of your symptoms you could have herniated or irritated another area of disc but don't go crazy it's only a guess on a message board. I'm going in for my 2nd surgery soon as it is.

If it starts flaring get rest, and don't push yourself through the pain as we often do. Try some ice or a heating pad, ibuprophin if thats what you take for pain, you must of stirred something up and when it stirrs its usually inflammation that you'll want to die down some to get some relief.
