Hey guys. Auto question for you. My Jeep's (Wrangler, Sahara, 1997) brakes are making high pitched screeches when I stop or slow down. It also happens when in backing up. I don't know what the sound is and I'm out of ideas.
It almost sounds like a stuck rock or as if the brakes are bad....here's the catch....the brakes are 3 months old and are not bad (I checked). They're higher class brakes, Advanced Auto Parts told us that the state troopers here in PA use them. I also completely cleaned the brakes out the other day, took off the calipers and rotors and sprayed everything with brake cleaner, nothing was stuck. I didn't see anything wrong except one of the pistons looks cracked (I don't think this could cause the issue though).
I'm not sure what to do next and really don't have the money to take it to a brake specialty shop. Does anyone who is auto savvy have any other ideas for me, or have any guesses what else could be causing this sound. I have to get rid of it, it's a real embarrassment every time I stop!
@thebax20 - The rotors are the same age as the brakes, everything was replaced at once. Some of us....can't afford the high price of labor...the brakes are not going to fail. I may have a loud noise going, but I'm not stupid or inept.
"Easy fix ,take the brake pads off and put a thin layer of permetex on the back of the pads."
Actually did this last week with a brand of lubricant from Nappa. Noise went away for the better half of the day, but returned later that night.

Also these brakes are not new. They're newish, but I put a lot of miles on my jeep per week. If they're not broken in by now, no power in the world is going to officially break them in.
