Lost phone - Can i replace it with cheap one?

I recently lost my phone, two days ago. It is not confirmed that its lost, as its very possible it is at my friend's house, but for the sake of this question, its a goner.

This is the second time I've lost it, considering I am incredibly irresponsible.
Anyhow, I would really love it if I could take care of the whole situation without my mother's knowledge, as I know she will be extremely angry.

I have insurance, but since Im getting a blackberry (from my dad) for christmas, which is less than a month away, and dont really need my same phone again.
I was wondering if I could go in and buy a cheap phone, or would I have to do it through the insurance company?

I know her social security number, and could merely pose as her. I know thats fraud or what not, but thats an entirely different topic. I only intend on buying a phone without her knowing, not stealing her identity.

Or I was thinking I could buy one off of ebay for cheap and then replace it? Would that be a problem?

I just wanted to know how I would go about this, because Im incredibly confused and any help would be appreciated.
Thanks so much!

First off, welcome to the forums. BUT in your first post you talk about defrauding your mother so to speak. I don't think you are going to find anyone on here that is going to give you advice except to say you need to do the RESPONSIBLE thing, & fess up to your mother about what has happend.

If you were my kid, and this is the second phone you had lost it, you wouldn't have to worry about it again. Ask my son, he'll tell ya. Be mature, and fess up. Honesty will get you a lot farther.

Alright, I guess thats a valid statement. I will probably end up telling her because my plan doesnt seem like it really is going to work without her knowledge.

But the premise of my idea is still the same I think. So is it possible to buy a new one off of ebay and just bring it in to replace my phone? Do you know the process that I will have to go through?
Or show me a thread where it has it been answered before? I tried searching to no avail.

Thanks so much

The only problem with buying an In-Pulse phone, and having it moved over to a post pay account, is VZW will not activate it on a "regular" account unless it was active as a prepaid for at least 6 months prior to you changing it over.

Well, thats policy anyway. You may find a CS rep who will do it. Its a 50/50 shot. Worst thing they can tell you in no.

This one's a simple one because I've done it, with my parent's knowledge of course, but you could do it without. It doesn't cost money or anything, and you can do it over the phone if you have the new phone and a landline or whatever. You can buy a phone off ebay or use a friend's old phone that's from your provider and just have them activate it on your account. It doesn't cost money but you might need the last four of the social or whatever. I'd say tell your mom, but if you already know what you need to do and whatnot, it would show that you took steps to try to help and fix it. Besides, moms know a lot about stuff haha

If you can get a used phone, I guess you could dial *228 from it & pick option 3 to change it over the phone. Does your mom pay attention to what kind of phone you have ? & how are you going to explain having another one if she does notice?
