LOST my entire Graffiti 2 screen- can't see anything at the bottom but a white squar

UGH! this stinks!

I lost my graffiti area completely. I have no idea what to do.

I installed Pocket tunes... I know that much... so I have uninstalled that.

Here's the deal - I can see the normal screen.. like my home screen and icons and stuff... BUT at the bottom of my display is.... NOTHING!

so where your onscreen Graf. area or keyboard and pull up menus are... at the bottom - is just a blank area.as if that has been erased from existance.

I am using a T5 with .. I think the latest upgrades...

the Ptunes were installed on the DEVICE not the internal or the SD card.

I think the Ptunes were NOT the latest version - not sure. I think it was a Vers.3 - not sure.

What can I do? I have so much loaded and I would hate to have to reformat my T5 and start over with a brand new re-install of all programs from the orig. CD package.

HELP. please??

I have had my T5 for a year. Everything was going fine until this really! Soft reset did not help. tried it again when you mentioned it. ...but nothing has changed. still no Graf area or keyboard or icons/pullups-downs... down there

Sounds as though you may have installed one or two files that were meant only to be installed on a T3. If you are using a windows PC, look in your palm backup folder, usualy located in c:\program files\palm\(abbreviated form of your username)\backup. In that folder look for statusbarlib.prc and/or appsliprotate.prc and delete them.

Now on the palm, you will need something like filez, which you can get here:

install filez, and look for those two files on your palm. you will need to delete them. a soft reset may be required. HTH

After giving this some thought, it would seem unlikely that this is a hardware problem. My best suggestion would be a hard reset which should restore the device to it's original factory state. Of course, this will also wipe out all your personal data, however, this can all be backed up and reinstalled. Nothing need be lost. I've been through this kind of crisis myself and, as long as you prepare properly, it's an irritation but not the end of the world.

Before you do anything else, do two things.

Firstly, find the directory on the PC you hotsync the T5 with, which has the same name as your T5. For instance, if your T5 device name is 'Suga' you should have a directory on your hard drive called something like:

C:\Program Files\PalmOne\Suga

Make a copy of this entire directory because it contains everything you need to restore your address book, calendar etc.

Secondly, On your T5 you'll find a file called 'Saved Preferences'. This holds all of your T5 info on your prefered currency, home time zone etc. Having a copy of this file will save a lot of time when you restore your device.

Once you have done these two things, you're ready to hard reset.

I'm not guaranteeing this will solve the problem (although I suspect it will), nor can I be sure that there isn't an easier solution (but if there is I don't know what it is).

Try Collumb's solution first and then NickGB's. It's very possible that you simply installed those incompatible files meant only for the T3 when you installed pTunes. To uninstall them you may have to do what I think is called a "warm reset" (hold the "up" button and press the reset pin). This boots the Plam in a "safe" mode so that nothing is running in the background. Then use Filez to delete the files Collumb mentioned.

ok -- so far... I have done the soft reset, warm reset....

I removed files from my PC backup under my hotsync nickname... i did find both that APP and the other in there so I removed them.

I downloaded the FILEZ app, but it's been impossible to find those files on my palm. I think they are hiding!!! argh!

Nothing it working so far...

I am just annoyed because I finally got my PC and Palm BT paired via mocha ppp and I have to copy that stuff and redo all that... plus everything else. argh!

I did put my T5 into drive mode with my pc, but I can only see the CARD and the INTERNAL stuff when in drive mode- I cant view the palm's main DEVICE area and applications that are loaded there as a drive on my pc ----

any thoughts on that? I thought IF i can fix that issue - maybe I can search for the files that way to remove them from my PALM
 
Hard reset the device per NickGB suggestion. Before you hot sync back the T5 - rename the backup file to backup old (the rest of the data will restore via the hot sync).

The backup file (renamed to backupold) contains the savedpreferences file etc. Hot Sync the device and all of your PIM information will come back. Then start adding in files via hot sync (one at a time) from this backupold directory. This will start restoring the additional programs that you added to the T5. Don't add any files that you are unsure of there purposes. And how do you tell.....well they are typically named based upon the original program. Also, before you start adding anything look at the PC and see that the "backup" directory has been restored after the first hot sync. It will contain the "core" files necessary for running the device and nothing else.
 
When you look in filez, you should see "Internal" and "INTERNAL" and if you have a card you will also see "External Card"

The first "Internal" with just the first letter caps, is the "system" memory, where applications get installed. If you tap the little arrow next to it, it should list the files installed on your palm. Tapping on the "Filename" heading will sort the files by their name. These files, if installed should show up in the list.

If you do find them, tap the little diamond next to the file names and it will turn into a checkmark. You can then use the menu button to delet the files. Hope this helps.
 
well, before I came in today and read Moose and Coll. I did a hard reset and resintalled. (that was after removing all the files I was told to.... or so I thought.)

so the hard reset worked... the graf. area came back.

then I hotsynched
and BAM!!!!!!!!!

all gone again

I am getting frustrated. The instructions from Moose and coll. are great- but I am starting to get lost now.

When you hotsync'd did all your old programs restore?

If so then you MAY have done something wrong.

Read through the above instructions again, hard reset again then hotsync making sure that your old backup folder has a different name.

Then from there report back here, let us know what happens.

As Camski says - redo the instructions above. Rename the backup folder to backupold as I stated. Don't copy it - rename it.

Then hard reset and hotsync. Your 4 databases will be restored: Contacts, Calendar, Memos, and Tasks and nothing else. Then run a screen capture of this backupold directory and post it here. I'll look over the files and will probably be able to tell you which ones not to restore.

To run a screen capture: open Windows Explorer and get the backupold folder and so that the files are on the right side. Hit print screen on your keyboard. This captures the screen (so have it maximized) and then open Paintbrush and paste into it. Save this as whatever file you want to call it. You'll probably have to do this a couple of times to get all of the files shown.

Your restore is putting the errant file back on your system and thus causing the problem. This will allow us to identify the culprit and then you can avoid reinstalling it.
 
I have been using my T3 for years now without a problem, but just migrated it to a new computer and for some reason I have lost the graffiti 2 input screen but still have the number and letter (upper/lower case) keyboards available. Where the small graffiti screen icon should be there is only white space. Before I start following the instructions on this forum I just want to make sure that there is not a simpler solution.
 
You have to first determine if this is a hard ware issue (doubtful since you do have the keyboard views) and the best way to do this is to proceed as noted above.

However, I suspect that there is a "skin" program at work that might be missing so be careful when adding the programs back into the T3 and be certain not to pickup something that you are certain what it is.

If there is a question as to the file name and what it does - provide the info and we can pretty much narrow it down and save you some more grief?
 
That's weird... Try doing a soft reset (i'm sure you have anyway)

Umm your problem seems slightly different because your device is a T3 but the above persons device is a T5.

Because the T3 has an extendable screen you are required to install extra components whenever you install a program (i think that's what they're for) [appsliprotate or something]

We think that the above T5 may be slightly corrupted due to those extra components being installed when it was not neccessary.

And also you can acctually see your bottom area, just not your graffiti area (can see keyboard etc.). Can you see anything at the bottom if you have keyboard/graffiti area pulled down (ie. Anything displayable onscreen other than keyboard pulll-up?)
