Lost Keys

Has anyone ever lost their red master key? I personally do not have a Duc....yet (gotta convince the wife ), but viewing other forums, it seems like losing that solo red key (or master key) can lead to an entire slew of headaches. I guess you'd have to replace the ECU and so forth to create a new master key. Does Ducati have an answer for this issue, or does anyone have any input? Any comments to help a newbie?
 
Actually when you buy your bike you get a very specific security card number. This is what they will use to get you a new key.
 
cool, i actually didn't know that, but now maybe another naive question.....
what if i lose my card? is that what everyone seems to be talking about (replacing ECU, et.)?
 
From what I understand the card is something new this year. If you purchase a used bike from the last couple of years that's when they used the red keys. So you better make sure you get the red key (if it came with one originally) if you purchase a used bike from recent years. My last bike was a 99 Ducati Monster and they didn't use the red keys back then either.

As for you yermannjer i'm curious as to if you're married (you know LIFETIME commitment and all) if not, you may want to hold off buddy but i will say i can definitely work on the convincing part

PS: commitment has nothing to do with my testicles ....and please don't take any of this to offense yermannjer, i mean this all in good fun!!
 
Lets see yes i;m married and have children. Since we are being personal I have been divorced as well have you ? Did you know the first step to divorce has to be marriage?

anyway, getting back to the whole "lost keys" thing....
if anyone has a list of "red keyed" models or any other info. regarding lost keys or ECU replacements, please don't hesitate to post. Like i said before, any new info will be much apprecitated for a newbie
 
Why don't you make four or five photocopies of the card and store them in different places....copy the info from the card in your cell phone and synchronize such info with your outlook desktop....or can you manage to lose....all of them at the same time?
