Loss of sex drive, horrific nightmares: Is this exam stress or something else?

I'm 18 and feel like I'm in a crisis: in just over a week I'll be taking my A Level exams and then following this if I get the grades I'll be off to university.
I've been off sex with my boyfriend who I've been with for over a year. He adores me and I love him very much too. I've been putting this down to stress. He's very understanding as I'd just rather cuddle but I know it offends him when I say no.
However, last night I'm not sure is another effect of stress: I was asleep at my boyfriend's house when I had a nightmare which I found so horrific I was in such a state that I was terrified to go back to sleep, and my boyfriend had to walk me home at 3am and sleep with me in my own bed with the light on all night. The whole thing is quite blurry, but I know I was such a mess from this nightmare and I've never had anything like it before.
Are these really effects of stress? If so what can I do to help myself because I can't bear it if it's going to get any more extreme.

i strongly agree with you sir ... i suggest you think things through darling before killing your self with stress, you at a very young age and already you starting this journey of relationships and sleeping over...whoe very bad if you want to achieve your goals..no matter how much you think he adores you and you loving him like crazy you dont have to prove that by having sex..

and if your stress is not linked or not coursed by this sex thing, its something else like you have been having these night mares before, i would advise you to see a psychologist or talk about it with your parents !
