I'm having difficulty loosening the automatic belt tensioner on my 97 mountaineer and wanted to now how difficult this was going to be. I do not have extensive automotive experience but I was told that replacing the alternator would not that challenging to do. I have it all worked out expect for loosing the serpentine belt. I know the tensioner is at the bottom of the engine and is very difficult for me to reach and get a hold of. Is it that I'm using the wrong tool (too short a rachet for leverage) or that my skills as a mechanic are lacking? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.
